IN CONVERSATION WITH NICOLE COLANTONI

Introduce us to Nicole Colantoni; talk to us about your career journey, what lead you to choosing the path of Relationship Coach?

I started my coaching career as a life and mindset coach and decided to specialise as a dating and relationship coach shortly after the launch of my podcast Single at Thirty: The Manual for the Modern Woman. After each episode aired, I would receive hundreds of messages from listeners who would reach out to me with questions and concerns about their love life and I quickly realised this was an area in which women needed a lot more support and guidance.

My mission now is to share everything about love and relationships that we didn’t learn from our parents or in school and to help women navigate the changing landscape of modern dating.

NO MATTER YOUR AGE, GENDER OR CIRCUMSTANCE; THE DATING LANDSCAPE HAS RARELY BEEN EASY TO NAVIGATE; THROW A PANDEMIC INTO THE MIX AND THE WORD CHALLENGE CAN BECOME AN UNDERSTATEMENT! TALK TO US ABOUT MODERN DATING AND HOW YOU FEEL THE PANDEMIC HAS IMPACTED THIS MOVING FORWARD.

Modern dating was already undergoing a major shift before the pandemic took place.

Never before have we been more connected, yet ironically it has never before been so difficult to attract long-term partners or sustain healthy and happy relationships. As social media and the fast-food swipe-right culture continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, more people than ever are either single, looking for love, or have settled into relationships that aren’t meeting their needs. It has become all too easy to continue searching for the “next best thing” rather than nurture relationships that might have serious future potential.

However, the restrictions and uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic motivated people to re-evaluate their priorities and think more critically about their lives and the people in them. Many relationships during this period were either accelerated, strained, or broke down entirely, while others who were forced to learn to enjoy their own company are now consciously making a decision to remain single moving forward. As the world reopens, many people are now looking not only to reconnect but are also in search of more authentic and deeper connections.

SINGLE AT THIRTY… TALK TO US ABOUT WHAT LEAD YOU TO EXPLORE THIS TOPIC AND LAUNCH A PODCAST; WHAT TYPE OF CONVERSATIONS ARE YOU HOPING TO LEAN INTO THROUGH THE PLATFORM?

I created Single at Thirty (SAT) shortly after my thirtieth birthday when I started to question whether the Modern Woman could really “have it all” and what that might even look like.

What started as the ‘how-to’ for the Modern Woman has now evolved into a community that not only airs the truth and reality of being a woman in this day and age but also challenges norms and expectations when it comes to dating and relationships.

My guests and I unveil what it takes to survive and thrive as a woman. Together we have conversations where no topic is taboo in order to help create the manual all Modern Women need, to successfully navigate life and love on our own terms without fear or judgment.

WHAT’S THE NUMBER ONE KEY DATING MESSAGE YOU HAVE FOR THOSE CURRENTLY IN THE SEARCH FOR LOVE?

Love is an inside job. Focus less on the search and more on yourself, because the relationship you have with yourself sets the foundation for all the other relationships in your life. Nurture it by figuring out who you are, what you want, and never ever settle for less out of fear of being alone or thinking you’re not worthy.

WHAT PERSON, PLACE OR EXPERIENCE HAS SHAPED YOU THE MOST?

My father has shaped me the most. He taught me from a very young age to always follow my heart and shoot for the stars regardless of how challenging the road ahead might appear because the only limits in life are the ones that we impose on ourselves.

HOW WOULD YOU BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

My personal style is classic and sophisticated with a polished edge. I like to push the boundaries between haute-couture and ready-to-wear, as well as both archetypal masculine and feminine codes. My signature look includes oversized pieces in leather, silk, satin, and velvet, accessorised with high-end costume and vintage avant-garde jewellery.    I am always overdressed.

NAME THREE CORE VALUES THAT YOU CHOOSE TO LIVE BY & EXPECT OF THOSE YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH.

The three core values that I choose to live by and expect of those I surround myself with include integrity, authenticity, and curiosity.

NAME THREE ESSENTIAL ITEMS EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE IN HER WARDROBE.

Every woman should have a classic tailored blazer, a little black dress, and a pair of denim jeans that can transition from day to night.
